Starting to make home brew beer in the right way
If you are just learning how to make home brew beer, consider buying the appropriate kits to use. To begin with you need just the starter kit consisting of two distinct types of kits
First, it should have an ingredient kit which contains all the materials that go into the mixture you will brew. Most of these kits give you around 54 12-ounce bottles of the beverage. Each bottle typically costs from 50 – 75 cents, dependent on the brand of the kit.
You should look next for the tools you will need for making home brew beer. These may also be bought by the piece. The equipment kit must contain two jars or barrels, one for fermenting and the other for bottling the beer. Check the fermenting container for air locks and safety vents. A racking hose, hydrometer, capping tools and caps should also be included.
If you are making home brew beer from ingredient kits, you won’t need to go the preliminary processes which include forming the proteins and the sugars, mashing the malt and lautering it. You jump straight to the fermentation process.
Home brew beer fermenting vessels
These should be 3-gallon or more containers which are better made of glass.
Before getting something plastic, verify that it is HDPE plastic (High Density Poly Ethylene). The recycling label found at the base or under the lid of many, but not all, plastic products contain a number indicating the type of plastic used for the product. The number 2 stands for HDPE.
You should be able to seal fermenting jars well. At the same time, it should have a means of letting out the CO2 emitted by fermentation.
Air Locks for home brew beer
Air locks let out the CO2 from the fermenting container. However, they should also seal the container from contaminants in the outside environment. The air lock can be fitted into a wide cover. It can also be built into the cover of a jar bottle, in which case it is referred to as a safety cork.
Home brew beer and hydrometers
For beginners who do not yet know to adjust the acid and/or sugar content of the beer, hydrometers are not really functional. However, to start learning to use them, they should be included in the starter kit. These are glass wands with calibrated values that can be used to determine the sweetness of the liquid or its alcohol content.
Racking home brew beer
Following the completion of fermentation, the fermenting jar should be placed on a stool behind and above the bottling jar. The stiff end of the racking hose is inserted into the fermenter and the other end left to hang inside the bottling jar. The wort is them siphoned out from the fermenter into the bottler, leaving the dregs behind in the fermenter.
Placing caps on your home brew beer bottles
New and empty beer bottles can be bought from internet sites for 50 cents or less. To install the caps on these bottles you will need a capping tool in your equipment kit.
